AMAZING Views from Causey Pike

What a difference a week makes! Last Sunday we were basking in near tropical temperatures on top of Causey Pike in the Lake District – well it sure felt like it compared to the damp drizzle of today.

We started out from Little Town, Cat Bells one side of us and the lesser populated Causey Pike in front. See that ridge – that’s where we were headed. Up to it, across it and then up the next ‘hill’ too.

Cheeeeeeeese 🙂

And this is only the beginning. It was a steep walk.

View from the end of the first of four grueling 30-45 mins full-on uphill climbing. Although the guidebook had assured us that there was only a little scrambling “hardly worth even a mention” …I beg to differ. I imagine it was incredibly peaceful up there but all I could hear was my heart beating in my head and my struggling for breath. The sled at the gym has nothing on this.

End of the second climb and time for a refuel. Rye toast with avocado and grilled salmon. Yum.

Resting just before the scramble ‘not worth mentioning’ – it was a full-on rock scramble and actually quite exposed in parts. Scary.

The ridge. Quite step scree drops each side. That is all.

Late afternoon haze at the top of the third and penultimate up-hill stretch. It was like being stuck in some hideous Escher puzzle. There was literally no downhill – surely that’s not even physically possible. But yes, apparently so.

The view from the fourth and final uphill trudge – it was practically vertical. #exhausted

On the way back to the car – downhill at last. Actually it’s quite hard going downhill too. By the time we got back to the car it was freezing cold and dark. A treacherous drive down the very foggy M6 and we finally got home. Shattered doesn’t even cut it – K has gone out on his own this week!
